A Google spokesperson told Search Engine Land. “This most recent update is one of the roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year”

Google added: “this update incorporates some new signals that help differentiate between higher- and lower-quality sites.” “As a result, some sites are ranking higher after this most recent update,” Google added.

Many high level sites have been effected also, such as Ciao – a shopping channel run by Microsoft, It has apparently almost vanished from many searches due to a  result of being downgraded. Also hit have been sites such as  voucher and discount sites and so-called “content farms” like the site ehow. Basically Google wants fresh, good, original information being served to it’s users.

Sites need Glue

Google has seemed to reward sites on which users spend more time. It has been noted that sites such as Ebay, National Lottery, and Mirror Group for example have seen a benefit. Your site needs Good Content that holds and retains users  - relevant and actually what they want to read.  Create lots of this without copying and write it well, and  you could see improvements.

‘Panda’ is a new filter that Google has created  to identify what it believes are low-quality pages on websites.  Should your website have too many low-quality pages, Google’s Panda update will effectively mark your entire site as a low quality site. It  doesn’t mean that your entire site is out of Google or not being served through the rankings, however it does mean that pages within your website will carry a penalty designed to help Google ensure only the better pages make it into Google’s top results.
